Kaum wartet man ein paar Jahre, schon wird der berüchtigte Untergrund-Tendsport der wilden Weiber, berühmt für den Hang zur size diversity, auch bei uns eingeführt.


Ich kenne schon lange diese Fotografin online, Madelyne Boudreaux aus Salt Lake City, die das früher selber gespielt hat und jetzt manchmal als Ansagerin bei einem Spiel auftritt, und Teams porträtiert, so wie auf diesem Bild. Dass da richtig dicke Mädels richtig heftig holzen, war mir schon lange aufgefallen, und ich hatte das auch schon mal online mit ihr diskutiert. Sie sagte dazu:

It’s funny, because when I try to recruit people, small women say, “I’m scared I’ll get hurt; aren’t they all big and tough?” and big women say, “Don’t you have to be fit and small to be an athlete?” It’s like everyone thinks someone else would be better at derby. But as I tell people all the time, anyone who says you is too tall/short/skinny/fat for derby hasn’t played it seriously (or seen it played seriously).

Ich muss doch mal gehen und mir ein Spiel angucken.-
